The network on the runtime's own driver

The network runs on the runtime's own driver too. The laptop's second USB controller sits behind Thunderbolt, where the firmware fences off DMA with the IOMMU; the runtime lifts that fence, takes the controller, and drives the USB-C Ethernet adapter itself through the standard USB Ethernet protocol (CDC-ECM). Genera's TELNET sessions and the live log now pass through it. With disks, network, keyboard and pointer on the runtime's drivers, the firmware is left with little to do.

Both USB controllers on the runtime's drivers: the Belkin USB-C LAN adapter on the Thunderbolt side's controller is Genera's network interface, net/0, with its traffic counters.
